About
Anna Marie Roos is a historian of early modern English chemistry and medicine. She is currently contracted to write a biography (Brill) of Dr. Martin Lister, a seventeenth-century physician and Royal Society member, her third book. Her work has been funded by the Royal Society, British Academy, the McKnight Foundation, the Newberry Library, and the National Science Foundation.
As part of the Mellon-funded Cultures of Knowledge Project at the University of Oxford, she also is calendaring, transcribing, and editing the correspondence of Lister in preparation for publication.
Her public outreach work has included public lectures at Tate Modern, the Liverpool Medical Institution, the Royal Society, and consultancy and filming with BBC Four for its forthcoming programme in the history of chemistry: Elements. Roos has also written articles for Natural History Magazine, part of the Smithsonian.
She was formerly an associate professor of history at the University of Minnesota.
