About
I am a Beit Scholar in Commonwealth and Imperial History, reading for a DPhil in Global and Imperial History at Exeter College, Oxford. I arrived in Oxford in 2008 from Australia, where I had focussed on Australian colonial history, museology and the history of Chinese migration to Britain’s Australasian colonies.
My doctoral research at Oxford explores the importance of colonial (particularly Australian) relations with China within British Imperial history in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. This project reflects a broader interest in British foreign and colonial policy, the British World and histories of migration, trade and cultural exchange.
I have taught Australian history and British imperial history at the University of Oxford and the University of Melbourne and worked for Museum Victoria and the Museum of Western Australia. In 2008-11, I have presented research papers at the Universities of Oxford, Bristol, London, Copenhagen, Surrey, Manchester and Renmin University, Beijing.
I am a co-convenor of the Oxford Transnational and Global History Research Seminar (www.history.ox.ac.uk/transnational).
