Thesis Title: Decision-Making on ICT Projects

Bent Flyvbjerg

About

I am research why organisations make optimistic decisions about IT megaprojects. My topic touches on a certain number of questions:
- How good is their decision-making?
- What are the causes for the shortfalls?
- What can we do about it?
My research questions touch on ideas of learning, decision- and sense-making, social and technical complexity, forecasting, and politics in firms. I am also researching the linguistics in this area as an important corner stone of the (social) construction of forecasts and business cases.

In short I try to explain why a room full of experts, who are paid good salaries to be rational, is still not making rational decisions.
