About
The objective of my DPhil is to improve the understanding of the hydrodynamics of marine (tidal) cross-flow turbines and in particular to improve the hydrodynamic design of a Transverse Horizontal Axis Water Turbine (THAWT).
My work is based on using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model to examine the influence of various design variables on the machine’s performance. An optimised design will be tested numerically as well as experimentally through (additional) medium-scale tests.
