About

My research examines disease, state power, warfare, and how these intersect in the eighteenth century, especially in colonial contexts.  More broadly, I am interested in the relationship between war and civil society during the early modern period.

I am also interested in interdisciplinary approaches, having been part of the University of Liverpool's interdisciplinary Eighteenth-Century Worlds Research Centre, and co-convenor (with Prof Eve Rosenhaft and Dr Hannah Smith) of the interdisciplinary conference 'Civilians and War in Europe, c. 1640-1815', see www.liv.ac.uk/18cworlds/war
