About
My main focus at the moment is GIS and survey techniques and how to apply it to a landscape of transition between the Iron Age and the Roman period in the difficult geography of the Basque Country.
Besides I am very interested in the archaeological characterization of the territory.
My current research topics are:
1. The archaeology of the Agiña region (Navarre): we have prospected the Agiña hillfort and excavated the wall and ditch since 2007. We want to do a comprehensive study of the complete region focusing on iron industry related sites from Iron Age to the Medieval period, but also mapping the landscape on resources, other sites, etc. This is mainly a field project, as there is little literature on the area. This study is set in a more ambitious project to map the landscape of Iron Age Navarre.
2. Death landscape in the Basque Country during the Bronze Age and Iron Age with a view to its study using GIS. Our aim is not only getting to know specific sites, but also to understand spatial population through the study of one of the very few known aspects of Bronze and Iron age, as funerary remains are the most widespread type of archaeological evidence found from those eras.
3. Evidence of Roman roads north of the River Ebro to the Atlantic and then onto Bordeaux (a side road from the main Via Asturica Burdigalam). Mansio and stations are known as well as some details, but the work is mainly done on the ground.
