About
My research addresses the molecular interaction between the endosymbiotic, maternally inherited bacteria Wolbachia and the mosquito Aedes albopictus, particularly with respect to reactive oxygen species production and immunity to human pathogens such as dengue.
I am also attempting to generate a novel Wolbachia infection in the Polynesian mosquito Aedes polynesiensis and will assess its potential effect on disease transmission.
In addition to my academic research I have a strong interest in open science, particularly open access and open data. I coordinate the Open Science Working Group at the Open Knowledge Foundation (http://science.okfn.org) and have recently founded an Oxford Open Science group (@oxopensci on Twitter).
