My main research interest are the novel and the graphic novel as emergent narrative forms, in particular the solutions they find for storytelling problems. Currently, I am investigating the cognitive underpinnings and historical continuities of the rules of poetics both in English neoclassicism and in the eighteenth-century novel.
I have published on metafiction, metaphor and multi-perspective storytelling, as well as the impact of postmodernism on comics and graphic novels.
