Students are exposed to the complementary approaches taken by developmental, cognitive, social, and clinical psychology in their quest to understand the nature of the human mind. With a stimulating grounding in the major theorists, students receive an analytical framework for investigating a wide range of topics including memory, language, personality & gender identity, psychoanalysis, and the subjectivity of mental health. As well as examining case histories, students are introduced to research methodology, as they conduct experiments and analyze their findings under the guidance of research specialists and practicing clinicians.
Second and third year students of the Department of Experimental Psychology are instructed in the design, implementation, analysis and presentation of original psychological research. Students learn to use statistical packages such as SPSS. Their papers on original research are graded according to content and form (A.P.A. style).
