I am interested in eastern Mediterranean interconnections from the earliest times to the first millennium AD and currently direct a survey along the coast east of Tobruk, Libya. I am particularly drawn to the ways in which we are socialised into material culture; this underpins my work on colonialism -- including the impact of the ruled upon the rulers -- , international trade, and the social rules governing the permeability of object worlds.
