Thesis Title: Bayesian Modelling of the Egyptian Chronology with High-precision Radiocarbon Dates

Professor Christopher Bronk Ramsey

About

The accuracy of the Egyptian chronology has been a contentious issue for some time. Our goal is to use the most up-to-date scientific methods possible to inform the wider historical debate. Unfortunately though, confidence in the reliability of radiocarbon dating in Egypt is also at a low ebb. This is partly because many previous studies were conducted before the method was fully established. Therefore, one of the secondary goals of the project is to help dispel such concerns, and reaffirm radiocarbon dating as the most accurate of all the chronometric techniques.
