Thesis Title: The relationship between teachers' beliefs about Deafness and HIV/AIDS education in Kenyan schools for the Deaf
About
I am a sociologist primarily interested in social conceptualizations of disability in developing countries as they relate to contextual influences such as HIV/AIDS. My most recent research explores teachers' beliefs about d/Deafness in the context of HIV/AIDS education in Kenyan schools for the deaf. These findings argue that these varied beliefs support models of deafness as both culture and disability depending on teachers' personal experiences and attitudes that in turn influence how they approach, implement and reflect upon the HIV/AIDS education curriculum.
