About
I'm a board-certified Adult Nurse Practitioner (MSN, Vanderbilt), and a board-certified Acupuncturist/Herbalist (MSOM, Samra University, USA and Beijing University TCM, China) in the United States. I also have a MPH in International Health and Development (Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine), a MSc in Medical Anthropology (Oxon.), a BA in Biology and Psychology (NYU), and a post-masters certificate in Adult Education (PENN). I am currently completing my doctorate in Development Studies at the University of Oxford. My overall interest is in healthcare equity for populations in developing countries.
Research Interests: Social Medicine and Comprehensive Primary Health Care; the impact of global health policy on developing communities; the impact of 'globalisation' on health; the effect of health reform and healthcare decentralisation; the integration of non-biomedical practices into state healthcare systems; the transfer of Traditional Chinese Medicine to developing countries; international food security; Positive Deviance in health and development; appropriate classificatory systems for local medical pluralism; community agency and sustainable development; operationalising agency; learned helplessness in development interventions; complexity in development; traditional knowledge and appropriate technological transfer; the appropriate level of inquiry and multilevel analysis; equity, health, & human rights; and the phenomenology of inequity & exclusion.
Currently evaluating the impact of the global health policy of integration of non-biomedicine with biomedicine (in state and local health systems) on community health and local healthcare systems in the Philippines.
