About
I am a doctoral student at the Department of Sociology and St.Antony's College, University of Oxford. My research interest includes politics of labour, discrimination and exclusion at work, caste, language and religious politics, social movements and urban development.
Before joining Oxford, I did M.A and M.Phil degree in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. I did my undergraduation in History and Political Science from D.G.Ruparel College, University of Mumbai (formerly Bombay).
I have recently submitted my doctoral thesis titled "The Unmaking of the Worker-Self in Post-Industrial Mumbai: A Study of Ex-millworkers Responses to the Closure of Textile Mills in Girangaon". The thesis, supervised by Professor Anthony Heath and Dr. Nandini Gooptu, is based on 112 in-depth interviews and a survey data of 1037 ex-millworkers collected during 14 months field work in Mumbai and few villages in the Maharashtra State (Western India).
