Thesis Title: The Literature of the Boarding House: Female Transient Space in the 1930s

Dr Rebecca Beasley

About

I recently completed a D.Phil at the University of Oxford.  My research investigated the space of the boarding house in 1930s women’s literature.  Locating the boarding house within the broader social transformations of industrial modernity, I addressed the relationship between boarding houses and the wider social and political environment.

My research was funded by a doctorial award from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

I am currently organising a conference Spatial Perspectives: Literature and Architecture, 1850 – Present to be held at the University of Oxford on Friday 22 June 2012.  Further details can be found on the conference website: http://spatialperspectives.wordpress.com/
