Thesis Title: Patriotism and National Culture

About

I am a DPhil student in political theory at Balliol College, Oxford. My doctoral research deals with patriotism, citizenship and national culture.

During the 2007 Australian election campaign I worked on the staff of federal Labor leader (now prime minister) Kevin Rudd. I have also worked on the speechwriting and media staff of Bob Carr when he was premier of New South Wales, and as an associate at public affairs firm Hawker Britton in Sydney.

As a freelance writer I have contributed articles to The Guardian, The Independent, The Spectator, Prospect, Spectator Business, The Australian, Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Courier-Mail, The Canberra Times, Griffith Review, New Matilda, AQ: Australian Quarterly, Campaigns and Elections, and Australian Review of Public Affairs among others. From 2005-07 I was editor-in-chief of The Oxonian Review of Books, Oxford's postgraduate political and literary journal.

I hold a first class honours degree in government and international relations from the University of Sydney. In 2006 I completed a Master of Philosophy in political theory (with distinction) at the University of Oxford as a Commonwealth Scholar.

A selection of my published articles appears in the "Papers" section of this page.
